BIG FAT RIDE – A Fur Rondy event

Saturday, February 24,2018 at 3:30 PM 4th Ave between E and F Street

We are celebrating Fat Biking in Alaska with the second Big Fat Ride in downtown Anchorage. In 2016, we had nearly 500 participants. In 2018, we are looking for 1,000 or more fat bikers to join the Big Fat Ride. We could set a world record!

Early registration is recommended. Families welcome!

Helmets are mandatory for all participants in the Big Fat Ride!

Funds raised will benefit Bike Anchorage, Single Track Advocates and Fur Rondy.

About the The Big Fat Ride

Fat biking is an Alaskan culture and a way to stay active throughout the long winter months. While fat biking may seem new in Anchorage, for three decades  snow biking has been a popular event on the Iditarod Trail. The goal of the Big Fat Ride is to bring together all ages of fat bikers, whether they are ultra-racers or commute using their fat bikes in Anchorage.

This is a non-competitive fun ride for all ages and riding abilities. The 5-mile course will start at 4th Ave  and D Street in downtown Anchorage. We’ll follow the route of the Fur Rondy Sled Dogs until connecting to the Chester Creek Trail where the route heads west toward Westchester Lagoon and merges on to the Coastal Trail for the final leg which ends at 2nd Ave and Christensen.

Why Anchorage?

Anchorage has a world class trail system within the city limits. With the snow,  single track trails are regularly used by the hundreds of fat bikers that commute and ride in the city. Anchorage has an international airport and a large selection of hotels and restaurants in downtown surrounded by a vast wilderness right in the backyard. Chugach State Park has more than 300,000 acres of wilderness bordering the city within 10-minutes from most hotels.

The mystique of the famous Iditarod Trail and Iditabike, is where fat bikes were conceived. Everyone wants to come and see Alaska. There is no better time than now, with the explosion of fat biking all over the world, to try this great outdoor activity.
